The Role: In this role you will work with our harvest, production and farm teams to manage our crop inventories while in the field, generating and updating weekly volume and quality updates for Sales and other stakeholder departments. These updates will be generated by driving to various field locations and measuring plant populations, tracking crop growth progress over time, and identifying potential factors affecting yield and/or quality. The ultimate goal for this role is to help maximize company wide profitability through close coordination with the harvest, farm and production teams.

Location: Salinas, CA

Pay Range: $75,000 – $85,000

Areas of Responsibility:

The primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Manage crop management, including estimating crop yields, watering requirements, crop quality, grower communications, and good field practices.
  • Participate in harvest management of products and packs, including determining crew locations, daily rundowns, truck logistics, load sheet information, and taking orders.
  • Recommend seasonal varieties for planting schedule.
  • Assist in generation and distribution of weekly sales volume and quality updates.
  • Analyze farm production and post-harvest strategies to maximize profitability.
  • Maintains product knowledge of the Tanimura & Antle product portfolio, including all product attributes.
  • Seek out new technologies and practices to stay competitive in the industry.
  • Promotes a positive Company image, and supports the Harvest, Sales, Transportation and overall Company efforts.
  • Maintain open communication and support with customers as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with harvest workforce and team members that reflect a reputation for professional communications, service, trust, integrity, reliability, attention to detail and urgency.
  • Works effectively and collaborates as a team member in the Harvest Department.
  • Works effectively and autonomously for customer service and profitable business growth.
  • Maximize yields, quality and crew production in order to maximize departmental productivity.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Education Training and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), college degree preferred but not required. Agricultural experience a plus.

 

Language & Communication Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the ability to communicate effectively in all circumstances, including over the phone, email and in person. Must have excellent written, verbal interpersonal and cross-cultural skills to communicate and work with everyone, from the field, cooler, to customers, team-members, and management.

Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from carriers, team members, and managers.

Must be bilingual in English and Spanish, speak, read, and write.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability

Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations and determine which option is the best suitable and profitable given the circumstances at hand. Able to troubleshoot and problem-solve.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word and Excel) and Internet software.

  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment, have excellent communication and organizational skills and great attention to detail.
  • Prefer to be familiar with Tanimura & Antle products including both conventional and organic products.
  • This position requires the ability to work well under pressure, be flexible and meet Company goals and deadlines.
