The Role:  The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager works closely with the Sr. Director of EHS on implementing all aspects of our environmental, health, and safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a safety culture. This role will require strong leadership skills, technical expertise in EHS practices, and a passion for driving continuous improvement. In this highly visible role, you will drive a proactive culture that results in superior EHS performance across all Company locations.

Location: Salinas, CA

Pay Range: $85,000 – $95,000 per year

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Ensure implementation and compliance of environmental, health and safety policies and procedures to include but not limited to: Injury Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Emergency Action/Response Plan, Fire Prevention, Forklift Operation, Hazardous Communication/GHS, Hearing Conservation, Lockout/Tagout, Machine Safety and Equipment Usage, Personal Protective Equipment, Safety Committee, Safety Training, EHS Inspections, Record Keeping and Posting Requirements.
  • Present as a visible leader, influencing and motivating while providing support for a strong proactive safety culture. Work collaboratively with business operations to implement innovative and proactive safety and health initiatives to reduce EHS risk.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report EHS data for trends and areas of concern.
  • Research and strategize emerging and complex risks; keep abreast of legislative/regulatory EHS changes that may affect business functions.
  • Plan and implement programs to train supervisors, managers, and employees in worksite safety practices to increase proficiency and promote a safety-conscious work environment.
  • Lead EHS inspections, conduct hazard and risk assessments and develop and implement appropriate follow-up plans.
  • Design and implement risk management and monitoring frameworks for minimizing exposures to EHS hazards and risks.
  • Promotes EHS awareness through internal company communication, newsletters, and specific training programs.
  • Identify mitigation and prevention controls and implement. Includes methods of reporting and correcting hazards.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and implement training to ensure individuals are trained in the processes and procedures.
  • Develop and lead safety committee structure, role, and purpose.
  • Train supervisor and management personnel on methods, practices, and techniques for reporting, investigating incidents, and root cause analysis.
  • Promote safety engagement by facilitating and attending regular department meetings, participating in ongoing interaction and communication, assisting with safety orientation, conducting training for all new hires, supervisors, and managers, and supporting safety recognition systems.
  • Conduct risk assessments to help the leadership prioritize initiatives, strategies, and action plans to identify and analyze risk-related information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) or related field.

  • 3-5 years of experience managing an EHS program.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) are highly desired.

  • Solid knowledge of a variety of EHS concepts, practices, and procedures including knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, and environmental laws and other health and safety laws as required.

  • Organizational development and/or training & development experience in an agricultural environment.

  • Experience in EHS operations and program implementation and management in an agricultural environment.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Proven ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and develop effective corrective actions.

  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish required.

  • Must be able to travel to support the operations.

  • Compensation is commensurate with education, years of experience, and past history relative to the preferred qualifications.

  • Must possess a valid Class “C” driver license.

  • Must possess a good driving record.
