Artisan Sweet Broccoli & Walnut Au Gratin
Ingredients
- 3 bunches Tanimura & Antle Artisan® Sweet Broccoli, ends trimmed, large stalks halved lengthwise
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
- ½ cup minced onion
- 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- ¾ cup vegetable broth
- ½ tsp granulated garlic
- 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
- ½ cup walnut pieces
- ¼ cup seasoned breadcrumbs
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Butter, for greasing casserole dish
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Blanch broccoli: In a large pot of salted simmering water, blanch broccoli for 2 minutes. Drain well and transfer to a large bowl. Discard blanching water.
- Make sauce: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened.
- Stir in flour and cook for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add milk, vegetable broth, granulated garlic, a pinch of salt, and ¼ tsp black pepper. Whisk and cook for 4–5 minutes until smooth and slightly thickened.
- Remove from heat. Stir in cheddar cheese until melted and sauce is creamy.
- Combine: Toss broccoli with cheese sauce and transfer to a buttered casserole dish.
- Topping: In a small bowl, mix walnut pieces and breadcrumbs. Sprinkle evenly over broccoli mixture.
- Bake: Place casserole in oven and bake for 25 minutes, until golden and bubbly.
- Serve immediately.
