FRESH VEGETABLES - Spinach

Description:
Tanimura & Antle Spinach has dark green leaves that are 2 to 3 inches wide. Leaves should be dull green on top and bright green on the underside. Raw spinach has a mild, slightly sweet taste that can be refreshing in salads, while its flavor becomes more acidic and robust when it is cooked. Spinach is an excellent source of vitamin A and folate!

Selection Tips:
Choose leaves that are crisp and dark green with a fresh fragrance.

Storage Tips:
Store spinach in the crisper or produce drawer of the refrigerator. Wash right before eating.

Preparation Tips:

  • Wash Tanimura & Antle spinach with cold running water and place in salad spinner or colander to drain. Pat dry before use.
  • Spinach can be eaten raw in salads and added to sandwiches.
  • Pack in the vitamins and layer spinach in lasagna, quiche, potato grain or macaroni and cheese.
  • For added color and a powerful dose of nutrients, stir into soups, pasta, rice and cream sauces.
  • Sauté with olive oil, garlic and lemon and serve with fish, chicken or steaks.

Additional Storage Information:
Ideal Storage Temperature: 34° -36° F/90-95% relative humidity. Refrigerate immediately after receiving. First in/first out rotation. Store in area with good circulation and away from ethylene-producing fruits to avoid russeting, spotting or decay.

Merchandising Tips:

  • Make it gourmet! Sauté Tanimura & Antle fresh spinach with olive oil, garlic and lemon. Cross Merchandise with olive oil, minced garlic and lemons.
  • Add to sandwiches or your favorite salads.  Cross-merchandise with seasonal fruits, pecans, crumbled blue cheese and balsamic or poppy seed dressings.

Safe Produce Handling Suggestions:

  1. Refrigerate produce as soon as possible after purchasing. Refrigerate cut or chopped produce within two hours of peeling or cutting. Once cut, leftover produce should be discarded if left at room temperature for more than two hours.
  2. Wash hands with hot soapy water before and after handling fresh produce, as well as after using the bathroom, changing diapers, or handling pets.
  3. Wash all vegetables with cool tap water immediately before eating. Don't use soap or detergents. Cut away any bruised or damaged areas before eating.
