Description:
Boston lettuce is a butter head lettuce with a delicate, mild flavor.
Selection Tips:
Boston lettuce should have fairly large, loose heads with thick leaves and even coloring. Leaves are fresh and flexible with soft, buttery feel. Green Boston lettuce has even-colored, light green leaves and red Boston lettuce has light red leaves.
Storage Tips:
Store Boston lettuce in the crisper or produce drawer of the refrigerator. Wash right before eating. Separate fruits from vegetables to minimize the detrimental effects of ethylene on the vegetables.
Preparation Tips:
- For impressive appetizers fill lettuce leaves with anything from stir-fry, to chicken salad, to taco beef or fresh vegetables.
- The buttery, mild flavor of Boston lettuce works well with creamy or sweet dressings, like poppy seed or blue cheese.

Additional Storage Information:
Ideal Storage Temperature: 34° -36°F/90 - 95% relative humidity. Refrigerate immediately after receiving. Refrigerate immediately after receiving. First in/out rotation. Store in area with adequate air circulation; however strong drafts such as from cooler fans may cause rapid dehydration. Store away from ethylene-producing fruits to avoid russeting, spotting or decay.

- Cross-merchandise Tanimura & Antle Boston lettuce with deli salads using the leaves as cups to hold dips, fruit and chicken, tuna or potato salad.
- The buttery, mild flavor of Boston lettuce works well with a creamy or sweet dressing like poppy seed or blue cheese.
Safe Produce Handling Suggestions:
- Refrigerate produce as soon as possible after purchasing. Refrigerate cut or chopped produce within two hours of peeling or cutting. Once cut, leftover produce should be discarded if left at room temperature for more than two hours.
- Wash hands with hot soapy water before and after handling fresh produce, as well as after using the bathroom, changing diapers, or handling pets.
- Wash all vegetables with cool tap water immediately before eating. Don't use soap or detergents. Cut away any bruised or damaged areas before eating.
