Tanimura & Antle Introduces New Product: Peri-Peri Peppadrops

Offering an Entirely New Flavor to Enjoy

SALINAS, Calif. – Tanimura & Antle recently introduced Peri-Peri Peppadrops to the trade at the Foodservice Produce Marketing Association Conference in Monterey. The response was overwhelmingly positive from chefs and buyers in attendance.

Peri-Peri Peppadrops are cherry tomato sized red peppers that are pickled with the Peri Peri (Piri Piri) spice, native to Africa by way of Portugal and Barbados. The brine is spiced with Peri-Peri, which is a key contributor to the spicy sweet flavor.

The inspiration for this project came at a popular restaurant in Laguna Beach named Mozambique. The restaurant features the foods of Mozambique, in which the Peri Peri spice is a staple ingredient. With ethnic flavors becoming mainstream in dining, these peppers add a new dimension to year-round foodservice menus.

“One taste and I was sold. I really enjoy them stuffed with cheese as an appetizer. Not too sweet and not too spicy, these little peppers are terrific in salads, salsas and dressings too,” said Rick Antle, CEO of Tanimura & Antle.

The Peri-Peri Peppadrop is an annual crop grown in Tampico, Mexico. Planted in July, harvested in December, and processed in San Miguel Allende, Peri-Peri Peppadrops are packed into 16 oz. Retail Jars and 91.7 oz Foodservice Pouches. The Tanimura & Antle sales team is actively distributing this item for both retail and foodservice. Peri-Peri Peppadrops will be featured at the Produce Marketing Association Conference in Anaheim in October.
