Tanimura & Antle Helps the Salinas Salvation Army Support Local Families in Need

A Holiday Tradition of Giving

SALINAS, Calif. (December 8, 2009) – Continuing a 10-year tradition of giving, this holiday season Tanimura & Antle will partner with the Salinas Salvation Army to support local families in need. Tanimura & Antle’s annual donations of fresh produce and the use of their refrigerated distribution center will help provide 600 families in the Salinas community a brighter holiday in a year where extra assistance is much needed.

Captain Kris Potter, who oversees the Salinas Salvation Army explains, “Tanimura & Antle’s support is immeasurable in the impact it creates in our community. Their generosity is helping us feed the mouths that tell our story and unites families at Christmas time. It actually ties back to a historical relationship that started hundreds of years ago when The Salvation Army helped train farmers to grow sugar beets very close to the Tanimura & Antle company headquarters.”
The Salinas Salvation Army depends on support from companies like Tanimura & Antle and local drives such as community giving trees, Salvation Army red kettles outside of retail locations and the December 11th KSBW Share Your Holiday event. Potter says, “We’re tremendously grateful to Tanimura & Antle for their years of support. We simply don’t have the funds to rent storage space and equipment in addition to hiring staff. The distribution center staff has always been incredible and we know this year will be no exception.”

The Salvation Army’s efforts will culminate on December 19th, where in one day, hundreds of families will receive their holiday packages including blankets, $100 of groceries, and toys for an estimated 2,300 children. Over the years, The Salvation Army has helped thousands of local families during the holidays. As Potter puts it, “Our goal is to make sure everyone who asks for it, is provided a Christmas.”
